H.264 MOV is most used by Nikon camera such as D5200, D800, D7000, D600, etc.
For example, Nikon D5200, Shooting Full HD 1080p HD videos with frame rates of 30p, 25p or 24p to be selected, and MPEG-4 AVCH.264 compression, at the same time,720p HD at 60p, 50p or 30p, the Nikon D5200 empowers and inspires filmmakers and video enthusiasts with cinema-quality HD video recording features

Videos recoded are vivid and brilliant, and such H.264 MOV files are supposed to be editable in FCP (X) or iMovie, however, this is just our wishful thingking, users often meet the problem below
“I shot a video with Nikon D5200, I am trying to edit is in FCP, however, such MOV files just cannot edited in the program, just not be recognized, so, how can I solve this problem Thanks. ”

Why this happen is because H.264 MOV is different from Prores MOV which is natively supported by FCP, iMovie. So, if you wanna import Nikon D5200 H.264 MOV files to iMovie, you need to convert Nikon H.264 MOV to ProRes MOV first. iOrgsoft Video Converter for Mac is a workable solution.

1. Load Nikon D5200 H.264 MOV
After running the Video Converter Mac, hit the “Add Files” button to load H.264 file from you camcorder. Mac users can also drag them to it.

2. Select ProRes MOV as output format
Hit the format icon, you will see the format list. You just need to go to the iMovie column to set output format. If you need to import Nikon D5200 H.264 MOV to FCP, you just need to go to Final Cut Pro column instead.

3. Convert Nikon H.264 MOV to iMovie
At last, hit the strong“Convert” strong button to transcode Nikon H.264 to MOV for FCP. When finish converting, you can import Nikon MOV footage to FCP to edit then.

Besides Video Converter, AVCHD Converter for Mac can do so.
